Review of Showstoppers

The concert ticket sales were higher than the October concert two years ago (last year being an exception due to the special production of "Green Eggs and Ham.").  In addition to the ticket sales from the October 28th concert, BCO received a $2,000 grant from the Central Minnesota Arts Board, as well as a $500 donation from the Buffalo Rotary to offset the comp tickets given to the families of the Suzuki String Students from Montrose.  To date, BCO has received over $4,500 in donations from individual supporters and local businesses as a result of the 2006 - 2007 orchestra fundraising campaign.

Gretchen shared that feed back from those who saw the concert was very positive. Julie submitted the Financial Report for BCO from August 1 though November 5th. She shared that we earned over $1,700 for the concert which is higher than we have collected in the past. We have received over $4,500 in donations. Jolyn reported that the Buffalo Rotary donated $500.

BCO October 8th minutes

The BCO minutes of the October 8th meeting were reviewed and accepted with no changes.

Review of Concert program regarding use of titles

It was generally agreed that patron’s names would be printed with the patron’s preference on how they would like to be listed. Professional titles for members will not be listed. Members will be listed in alphabetical order within their section.

Placement of concert posters

It was recommended that placement of posters be reviewed and assigned by geography. Rosie will review the list and reorganize assignments for each section. There was discussion on how to provide posters to new businesses in town and businesses in the neighboring towns. BCO members will be encouraged to take extra posters to place in towns and businesses not listed.

Principal positions and solos

We reviewed the procedure for those who would like to challenge a principal position. This opportunity is available at the beginning of the season. The conductor will interview and judge for the principal position. With in the section the principal may reassign solo parts.

Creation of a committee to handle requests for solo ensemble positions

By consensus it was decided that a committee may not be necessary as there are not that many requests. However, it was suggested that a list be kept of those who are interested in solo/ensemble requests. The BCO president will maintain the list.

Holiday concert

Buffalo Rotary is collecting toys for a Silent Santa program which is for local children in need. Jolyn recommended that we support this as we have done in the past. We will have a Toys Drop off box for the Silent Santa program and the BCO will advertise and promote this effort in the posters and other media available to the BCO. It will be promoted at the Holiday concert too.

Other

Kristi shared that the Buffalo High School theater program was accepted to attend the prestigious Fringe Theater Festival in Scotland this coming year. They are trying to raise money for this wonderful opportunity. We have several BCO members who will be attending. In order to support the arts in the area it was suggested that the BCO donate some season tickets to a silent auction to help raise money. After some discussion Bill Tregaskis made the motion to donate four pairs of tickets. It was seconded by Rosie. Motion was unanimously passed.
