Joining the Buffalo Community Orchestra for their 2011-2012 season is
conductor and Minnesota native Erik Rohde. Currently pursuing a
Doctorate of Musical Arts at the University of Minnesota, he also conducts
the University of Minnesota Campus Orchestra and Campus String
Orchestra, the contemporary music ensemble Contemporary Music
Workshop, and serves as assistant conductor for the University Symphony
Orchestra and Opera Theater.
Rohde holds a Master’s of Music in Orchestral Conducting, a Bachelor’s of
Music in Violin Performance and a Bachelor’s of Biomedical Engineering
from the University of Minnesota, and is currently pursuing his Doctorate
under the direction of Mark Russell Smith. Rohde also performs
extensively in the Twin Cities as a violinist; past residencies include the
Alchemy Project, the SPARK Festival of Electronic Music and Arts, and the
Electric Eyes Festival. Rohde spends a small amount of time composing,
and his works have received recognition and been performed in the United
States and in Europe.
Rohde currently resides in Minneapolis, MN with his wife, Erin Rohde, who
sings with the Minnesota Chorale, and their son, Carter.
